About Me/سحر اسمعیل طهرانی

سایت شخصی سحر اسمعیل طهرانی/هنرمند تجسمی / Born : 1986 | Ceramic lecturer at Al-Zahra and Shariati universities Sahar Esmaeil Tehrani is a visual artist who works with many media. Her dream of becoming an artist dates back to her childhood that she was fascinated by art and she constantly painted and made sculpture with materials. As her father worked in Cultural Heritage, he brought artistic books and magazines .These picture encouraged her to be sensitive and enthusiastic about art and culture. She got high score in entrance exam and passed Handicrafts in Art university of Tehran which is one of the best Art University in Middle East. It is worth mentioning that these years have been best experiences in her artistic life. She was familiar with a lot of traditional works of art which represented nature, human beings and its elements in Iranian culture. In her BA thesis, she researched about Nowrouz which is a universal ceremony that involved birth of nature in spring. Its different shapes and symbolic concepts created a distinctive abstract expression of colors and forms in her mind and she created ceramic arts. Combining theory with practice deepened her understanding of textbook knowledge and enriched her hands-on experience. In 2013, she was admitted in Al-Zahra University in painting for MA. This course was a new way to examine her idea in theory of art. In her MA thesis, she considered ancient Iranian culture and myths of nature. In fact, she wanted to follow previous researches in her BA thesis. By studying cultural and historical course of Iran’s mythology, the same thought and approach toward nature and tree is seen and these periods have influenced each other, so that the manifestation of Zoroastrian and Manichean culture and civilization beliefs in mysticism and Islamic culture is undeniable and it represents the most valuable and important place of trees and plants in Iranians thought and belief system. she often work with several media such as painting ,ceramic , photography ,installation ,sculpture and so on due to these objects which give lots of noble opportunities to solidify her artistic ideas. She has held two solo and more than 30 group exhibitions in the field of painting, ceramic and drawing. Also, she works as an art teacher. She has taught pottery, glaze ,painting and drawing at many institutes and AL-Zahra and Shariaty Universities in Tehran.

Statement

I choose ceramic and painting between many materials which I experienced in art university because both of them can depict my imagination and ideas with a myriad forms. Also, I try to use pottery techniques in different concepts, but tiles such a canvas provide a suitable surface with lots of events and artistic opportunities. Colorful and amazing glazes constantly make me cheerful and motivated. Therefore, I want to juxtapose visual elements with ceramic materials. Moreover, teaching ceramics to my students (both kids and adolescents) expand my horizon properly. In fact, I think as a visual artist, ceramic can enrich other visual fields such as painting in unique traits. Nature and its elements have always been my mental concerns to create my works. These elements have been interwoven tightly with concepts such as birth, life, death, resurrection and eternal life and manifested in various forms in the arena of myth and art. The metamorphoses of these elements accompany a new novel nature that extended in wide contents. Meanwhile, tree has always been something more than a conventional plant in my view. Rooted in the soil and head to sky, created a distinctive abstract expression of colors and forms in my mind with transformation in seasons that ceramic, soil and color are the tools to make these mentalities visible.
